Before Your Appointment

Helpful tips to get you ready for your tattoo

Thank you for booking your next tattoo with me, Stephanie. I truly hope to give you a great experience and make the process as easy as possible; before, during and after! Here are some helpful tips to help you feel prepared for your tattoo appointment.

1. Hydrate: Drink plenty of water in the days before your appointment. Hydrated skin heals faster and absorbs ink better.

2. Prepare your skin: Exfoliate the tattoo area once a day for seven days before your appointment. This helps to remove dead skin cells and create a smooth surface for the ink.

3. Moisturize: Use a moisturizer to help keep your skin smooth and hydrated. Moisturized skin makes it easier to apply the ink and the skin is better able to withstand the damage caused by tattooing. Note: After the tattoo you will need unscented lotion to help with healing.

4. Avoid sun: Avoid any sun exposure or tanning (including fake tans) in the area to be tattooed prior to your appointment. Sun burnt, or peeling skin cannot be tattooed.

5. Avoid alcohol and caffeine: At least 24- 48 hours prior to your appointment. Alcohol and caffeine can thin your blood, which may lead to increased bleeding during the tattoo process.

6. Eat well: A nutritious meal before your appointment will help you maintain energy and blood sugar levels and help you manage pain. Going without food can cause dizziness, light-headedness or nausea. Bring plenty of water and snacks to keep your energy up.

7. Dress comfortably: Wearing loose- fitting clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area.

8. Get good sleep: A good night’s rest can improve your pain tolerance, help you stay calm during the process and allows your body to function optimally, making the tattoo experience more comfortable.

9. Shaving: You do not need to shave for your appointment. The area to be tattooed will be shaved larger than the design to allow for the second skin bandage to adhere to the skin. If you wish to shave, be careful not to cut or nick the skin. Any irritation will need to subside before the session. If you decide to go the waxing route, be sure to do so with enough time for your skin to heal.

10. Entertainment: Netflix will be available for you to choose something that keeps you entertained and distracted during your tattoo. If you would like to wear headphones to listen to music or an audio book, you are more than welcomed. Stephanie may touch base with you from time to time to see if you need anything or ask you to shift positions.

11. Don’t: Please do not show up to your appointment intoxicated, sick, just after an intensive workout (without showering), or with damaged skin (cuts, bruises, peeling or fresh tans).
